(JW Insights) Sep 5 -- Over 30 well known Chinese IC companies and 1,000 students from 10 universities in Shanghai, including Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, participated in the “Talents Recruitment Month” job fair by Shanghai’s Zhangjiang High-Tech (张江高科) in Shanghai IC Design Park on September 1. JW Insights is the organizer of this event.
Fu Jun, Deputy Director of the Zhangjiang Management Bureau of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, said that Zhangjiang Science City is the core area gathering high-level talents. As of the first half of this year, Zhangjiang Science City has attracted approximately 500,000 employees, with over 100,000 holding postgraduate degrees and 80% being young talent. Overseas entrepreneurial talents accounted for about 50% of Shanghai's total.
She emphasized the importance of building an efficient and precise communication platform between talents and enterprises to promote a balanced supply of talent in the IC industry.
The ten universities attending the fair in Shanghai included Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, East China Normal University, and East China University of Science and Technology. Their majors covered electronic information, microelectronics and solid-state electronics, related science and technology, IC engineering, computer science.
The attending companies were from the entire IC industry chain including equipment, materials, manufacturing, design, testing, and applications. CXMT(长鑫存储), Beken(博通集成), C*Core(国芯科技), and Primarius(概伦电子) were among them. They offered over 1,000 job positions and received more than 11,000 resumes.
The sign-in data showed that over 90% of the attending students were postgraduates, with master's students accounting for 85.12%, doctoral students 8.50%, and undergraduate students 6.38%, said the JW Insights report.
Zhangjiang High-Tech is a leading force in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area, and talent development is an important part of the company’s service matrix. It is the builder of both Zhangjiang Science City and the Shanghai IC Design Park. The job fair has been held annually since 2020. This year, it is also held in Chengdu City and Xi'an City except for Shanghai.
In the future, the company will expand the activities to more key cities nationwide every year, aiming to reach beyond the Yangtze River Delta region and contribute to the accelerated construction of a world-class IC industrial cluster in Pudong.
The Shanghai IC Design Park is the city's only industry cluster that focuses on integrated circuit design with international standards and a global perspective. It has a planned area of 4 square kilometers.
Since its establishment at the end of 2018, it has seen accelerated gathering of enterprises and rapid improvement in the industry level. Approximately 400 IC design houses operate in the area, with seven out of the top 10 global chip design companies that have established their regional headquarters and R&D centers here. They include six out of the top 10 Chinese chip design companies.
